“ This restaurant apparently was located right next to the market next door a decade ago. I've been to the old place plenty of times with family and usually enjoyed the food. It's still small like the old place but definitely looks better! We remembers this place tasting the closest to the dishes we had in China but that was a decade ago. This time, my family wanted to try it out in the new location. The place was fairly empty for a Wednesday night around 5:30, there was one server and a chef who periodically comes out to help serve. They didn't get busy until around 6:30 when more people started coming in. My dad and uncle ordered the dishes which included a spicy fish, lamb skewers, fried meatballs, kidney stir fry, intestine stir fry, honey walnut shrimp, fried fish stir fry, sweet and sour pork chops, kung pao chicken, and more. We got two pots of tea in different pots (same type of tea), a pot of rice, and a container of ice and cups to make ice tea for ourselves. Unfortunately the one dish I remember from the old place wasn't ordered which was the cumin chicken bones, but I was able to enjoy the lamb skewers which were pretty spicy but juicy! Got three orders to share our table of 11. The rest to the food were ok, I do not enjoy eating kidney, intestines, or super spicy food much therefore it's hard to rate the rest of the dishes. Kung pao chicken was good but I bit into a ginger slice and stopped eating it. The fried pork and fried fish was good but I got the fried bits that were mostly flour towards the end. I enjoyed the honey walnut shrimp and my kid loved the pork belly from the pot of vegetables and glass noodles (nonspicy). The spicy fish was topped with so many chillies! Fried meatball was ok, mostly flour though. Since there was only one server, she had a hard time serving multiple small party tables, incoming and outgoing take out orders, and our table of 11. She did the best she could, definitely appreciated her efforts. The chef who came in and out was very helpful as well since she was usually tied up and the food is coming out. The downside was parking, there are "reserved" parking spots for each place in the strip, just read the signs carefully, so you have the best chance parking in the market lot and just walk over. Overall, I would only come back with family since it's more for a dinner that is family style. However, given the dishes they order tend to include offal and spicy food, I will still enjoy just some dishes they order and be happy for them treating me out. Restrooms were in the back, clean and separated by gender. ”
“ You just know it's going to be good when no one in the building speaks English by default! We walked in for a party of two, and the restaurant was empty other than one other party. So we were seated promptly! We had someone start placing the order in English, and the waitress looks at me and says something. I was like I'm sorry pardon? And she realized I didn't speak Chinese so she went on and told us that the dumplings we were ordering were only vegetable, which was very nice of her to let us know! Not many people would try to communicate that to us! The food was incredible, we had the dumplings which were perfectly cooked, and not dry at all! The beef chow mein packed so much flavor and was so goood! I wish it came with more! And the beef rolls were so yummy! I will say this specifically had too many green onions for my liking but it was still delicious! Only down side, when we flagged her down to get our bill, we handed her our card and she couldn't take payment. She said their internet was down and she had to take cash. I know internet being down isn't their fault, but luckily we had cash. We don't always carry cash, so we got lucky because I don't know how else we would have paid ”
“ i got takeout from here for dinner. the place seemed very convincing because of how the staff and diners were so casual with each other (though all the groups dining in spoke mandarin), and because of the fish tank at the front. seems like a family-style environment and home-style comfort food that i'd take my parents to for authentic food! - 红烧肉炖宽豆角 [braised meat with broad bean]: also had 粉丝 so even better than expected! the meat was very tender and tasty itself. the broth was thick and a little sweet and hearty and filling. - 熘三样 [pig stomach, liver, intestine]: love a good 3-in-1! no gaminess. liver was tender, not crumbly or chewy. good meat to accompanying vegetable ratio (which included onion and carrot and wood ear). - 豆豉鲮鱼油麦菜 [green veggie]: looked like it would be very spicy, but it wasn't too bad for me. good quantity. - 花卷 [flower bun]: made in-house that morning. steamed it at home for a few minutes and it was so fluffy! items seem to be on the pricier side, but portions (and proportions within each dish) made up for a bit of the extra $$. ”
“ This place serves very authentic north eastern Chinese food. It tastes just like home. During the hush winter, the crispy and sweet 糖葫芦 (hawthorn candy) will always give me fond memories. We ate here twice already from our visit to LA. The portion is pretty big and price is even better. In this inflation age, their prices seem still stuck from several years ago. The food came out really fast so our table of six was able to enjoy our hot crispy pork within 10 minutes. My wife is from ShenYang and we believe the owner came from Shenyang as well. She loves their cold noodles and it has special sweetness different from South Korean restaurant. The soup has more flavor. We also ordered their Fried Sweet & Sour pork. (锅包肉)They cooked this to perfection. It is crispy, sweet and juicy. We order this dish every time we came here. We will definitely come back if we visit LA in the future. ”
“ I wasn't familiar with Northeastern cuisine, but my friend insisted we try this restaurant. It truly feels like home cooking! I loved it so much, went back twice. The Guobao Pork and Sauerkraut Pork are fantastic, and don 't miss out on the hawthorn candied haws. The prices are fair, portions are generous, and service is speedy. Highly recommend! ”
“ Authentic Northeastern restaurant in the heart of SGV. The small parking lot is pretty limited compared to SGV standards, but you can park on the street. The decor is a little outdated, and the dining environment isn't the best, but that's also how you know it's an authentic northern Chinese restaurant. They have decently sized portions at reasonable prices, and it just so happens that their food tastes amazing and authentic. My staples of northern Chinese cuisine are their 孜然鸡 (cumin chicken) and 锅包肉 (sweet and sour pork). I also ordered their marinated pork bone. For starters, their cumin chicken is so good during every visit I've been here. I was a little disappointed this time since I expected half a chicken, but in my half chicken found 6 chicken necks (LOL). The sweet and sour pork's authenticity can be measured with how thinly cut the meat slices and breading is - and it definitely passes the mark. Amazing taste and quality! The marinated pork bone is also really good, flavorful, and tender. Although I only ordered 3 dishes, I was able to take home leftovers and heat them up for dinner. I would recommend ordering rice since the flavors can be strong and I needed a "reset" for my tastebuds. Service is pretty good in my experience, but the boss lady doesn't really speak English that well. I saw non Chinese speaking customers speak to a different person when ordering. Otherwise, if you speak Chinese, you'll be fine. They are attentive, but sometimes, just take initiative and call them over - it's not a western restaurant. Oh yeah, the ratings being low for poor service? That's kinda the experience and culture with northern Chinese restaurants - it's another clue they are authentic! ”
“ This restaurant serves really authentic Chinese food. The flavors of each dish are robust. Their prices are also quite reasonable, especially for the portions you get. Service is decent. The waitresses are quite attentive. If you speak Mandarin/Chinese, then it's really not too bad. Their English is limited, but you can order by pointing to the pictures on the menu. I've done that a few times and they have always gotten my order correct. My family and I have come here at least a dozen times and it has not yet disappoint us. My favorite dishes include... 1. Cumin lamb skewers (5/5) On point with what you can expect from cumin lamb skewers. They are not skimpy on the amount of meat they give 2. Dry Tofu with Hot Pepper (4.5/5) Not too spicy or salty. The tofu skin is marinated in a light, creamy sauce. 3. Meat Pie (4/5) This used to be my favorite as it was packed with layers of alternating dough and meat. Since their relocation to this new plaza, they decreased the layers from 4-5 layers to just 2-3 layers. It's definitely lighter this way, but I also feel it's not as flavorful or juicy 4. Peking Style Pork with Tofu Skin Wrap (5/5) Think of this as shredded pork cooked in the peking duck sauce. You wrap the meat in tofu skin instead of a white steamed bun. Very unique combination that's super delicious and doesn't feel as heavy to eat. 5. Beef Roll and Leek Pocket If you like carbs, these 2 are for you. Both are on point with their flavor and texture. Best to get this if you have a large party to share it with. It's very filling. ”
“ I just finished my 5-day fasting, thus really has no appetite. I was debating to get this sour cabbage pork stew or something else from Korean restaurant. Finally I decided to give it try with the mindset worst case I'll order something else. Ordered via delivery app, and I got my food pretty fast! I did call ahead to make sure they make the way I like. The staff in the restaurant is awesome, and listened to my requirements. First - the portion is huge. I ordered one stew but comes with two bowl. That's how big the portion is. Taste- great! 80% like what I had in Northern China before. Awesome! I am very satisfied with the meal. And I would definitely want to come back again with my family. Worth to mention: the dish costs a lot cheaper if you can pick up instead of through delivery app. ”
